Robots!

My little boy asked "B" last night if he could have a robot for Christmas (nothing like getting in early).  When "B" reminded him he got a Buzz Lightyear robot for last Chrissy, he exclaimed that Buzz was remote control, not a real robot!

My response, well hey, if he wants a robot let's get one that cleans the house!  Maybe Santa can bring me one!

Check out these beauties...

Roomba 577

Product Features & Benefits

  • Efficiently vacuums dirt, debris, pet hair, dust, allergens and more from carpets and hard floors
  • Cleans the whole floor, under and around furniture, into corners and along wall edges
  • Detects dirtier areas and spends more time cleaning them
  • Spot Clean provides quick clean-up of spills and concentrated messes
  • Automatically senses and avoids stairs and other drop-offs with cliff sensors
  • Automatically returns to its self-charging Home Base to dock and recharge between cleanings
  • Faster counter-rotating brushes and powerful vacuum pick up more hair, debris and dust and are easy to remove and clean
  • Improved filter captures more dust, pollen and other allergens while a larger bin holds more debris
  • Improved anti-tangle technology keeps Roomba from getting stuck on cords, carpet fringe & tassels
  • Improved side brush makes Roomba even more efficient at cleaning edges and corners
  • Reduce the time needed to charge with express 3 hour charging and standard 7 hour charge
  • Informative audio voice demonstration walks you through Roombas initial set up and alerts you when Roomba requires maintenance or assistance
  • Light touch bumper ensures Roomba slows when approaching obstacles and automatically redirects itself when bumping obstacles

Costs around $800

My take:  These sound great!  Reviews are certainly good.  Love the idea of heading out for the day and coming home to a vacuumed home!

    Scooba 385

Cleaning Process
  1. Preps - picks up dirt, sand and crumbs
  2. Washes - uses only clean solution to wash floors, never spreading dirty water around like a common mop
  3. Scrubs - powerful brush removes dirt, grime and stuck-on messes
  4. Dries - squeegee lifts dirty water from floors leaving them clean and dry

Product Features & Benefits

  • Ideal for homes with larger hard floor areas. One full tank washes up to 40 square metres before it requires refilling
  • Autonomous cleaning pattern covers each area of floor multiple times to ensure total floor coverage
  • Cliff Sensing technology allows Scooba to avoid stairs and ledges
  • Virtual Wall creates an infrared beam that Scooba will not cross. Use the Virtual Wall to mark off-limit areas in your home
  • Uses clean tap water and vinegar solution from start to finish, leaving your floors cleaner
  • One-year manufacturer's warranty

Costs between $750 - $850

My take:  Like their vacuum buddy, they sound pretty good.  We're having timber laminate flooring, so not sure if they'd be suitable.  Laminate and water don't mix well together so the old fashioned way of mopping may be the go for my flooring.

Husqvarna robotic mower

Product Features & Benefits
  • No need to collect the clippings
  • Very quiet
  • No gas, no oil, no emissions
  • Safety features
  • Anti-theft alarm
  • Returns to charger when battery is low
  • Takes about 5mm off lawn each time
  • Designed for domestic lawns of any size

Review

Costs around *cough* $4,000

Great article here

My take: I think it's too early for these mowers and over time they should improve and costs come down.

What's your take on robotic house helpers?  Great?  Or a bit too freaky (robots taking over the World and all that lol)?
