Silly for slabs!

'B' and I met up at the slab this afternoon and I stepped foot on it for the first time!

We were so excited pacing through the 'rooms' and having a good squiz at everything (well, a good squiz at the slab, backyard and positioning to neighbours anyway!)

Our little lot is in such a private position which is just so perfect for our plan.  Dad will have his privacy at the front by not opening up right onto the street (Rumpus & Bedroom 5 are his areas).  All the houses surrounding us are single level and our neighbours are stepped down about 800mm too which just adds to the all round privacy.

If the frames weren't going in next week I think our SS would have found tape marking out the floor plan by 'B' just so we could really get a feel for it.

How did you find it when you first stepped foot into your soon to be home?

An update...

No, not the update I just know you were just hanging out to hear (ha ha)!  But an update all the same.

I spoke to our Site Supervisor (SS) for the first time today!  Didn't he call you before your slab went down, I hear you ask.... No, seems there was a little stuff up at Head Office and they somehow missed releasing our file to him until I mentioned the missing drainage point.  Oops!

Either way, due to file being released a little late, it means the frame, windows etc were ordered a little later than usual so our frame should be delivered next week.  Once the frame is up, he wants to meet with us on site to get the correct spot for missed drainage point.

No dramas in the big scheme of things (unless you count me being all sad every time I do a drive-by and having nothing new to gawk at!).  The upside is our slab will have had a good chance to cure before anything is placed on it.

SS sounds like a nice guy - here's hoping for just as good an experience going forward as we've had with our brilliant CSO, Sara!

A little surprise

It's only been a week since concrete was poured for our slab so I didn't really expect to see anything when I did my usual Wednesday morning drive-by today however it appears some electrical preparation has been going on recently.  Any progress, no matter how small is exciting!  I'm guessing we should have a frame in another week or so!

Meter Board going here

Not sure but hey it's a new pipe!

For our instantaneous hot water I believe

We have a slab!

I was hanging out for my drive-by this morning and was very happy to see a gorgeous, yes gorgeous, slab has been poured.  Yesterday, if the date painted on side of slab is anything to go by.

We noticed last Friday that the plumber's had left one drainage point out (for future kitchenette in self-contained unit).  At that stage the waffle pods and steel had been laid but concrete not poured.

'B's' first contact with our Site Supervisor (SS) was a little awkward because here we were calling him with an issue before he'd even got our file and knew he was our SS!  Didn't want to be known as too anal annoying pedantic this early on anyway ;)  And there was a bit of - you call him, no you call him going on but either way our SS sounded like a good bloke and agreed we were right to be raising the issue.

Anyway, what do I find today? Gorgeous slab - check, missing drainage point - ummm, still missing!

Not a great start but not the end of the world.  Eden Brae's problemo!

Waffle pods and steel all ready for concrete

Gorgeous right?

Awww our first (and hopefully last) bit of graffiti

Guess we'll have to wait a couple of weeks now for it to cure.

We have action! The formwork has been laid!

We were told the 15th February should be our official start date and I was still waiting on confirmation from our CSO about this when 'B' drove by the land last night and noticed we had formwork!!!

When I did my usual drive-by this morning I also noticed all our waffle pods and steel has been delivered this morning too!  Talk about exciting! 'B' reckons our slab may be down by end of this week, beginning of next.  Better get on to our Mortgage Broker (who are absolutely awesome by the way) to organise the next drawdown of our loan.

And before I post all the exciting pics (exciting to us anyway!) I'll just add I was really shocked by the size of the footprint of the house!  Usually when I've seen slabs they looks so tiny & I can't imagine a decent size house fitting on it but not this time!

Couldn't resist one last drive-by this afternoon and happy to see some plumbing's been done.  Wonder what I'll find on Friday...
